2022/23 Season - Week 1

The season started with mixed results for our teams. Some great victories for the Ladies 1s, 3s, 4s and Mens 4s.

Blueharts Ladies 1s start the season strong

It was a welcome return to league hockey for Blueharts this weekend with the first league games of the season. The ladies 1s got their season off to a very strong with a dominant 5-2 win over Old Southendians. 

Opening the scoring was Paige Vorster with a calm flick over the keeper after a scramble in front of goal. The opposition equalised just before half time after a scrappy short corner. The second half demonstrated how fit and well practised the ladies are under their new coach Stefan Taylor. They outplayed the opposition to score four goals in quick succession- Harriet Marsh x 2, Emily Jakeman x 1 and Becky Woodgate x 1. The opposition had a lucky break before the final whistle to score a consolation but it wasn’t enough to catch the mighty Blues.

The men's 1s were also in action against Old Southendians, this time at home. Starting strong, Harry Woods scored a well worked goal and was unlucky a few minutes later with a shot that cannoned off the post. They then allowed the visitors too much time on the ball and were sloppy in possession which allowed Old Southendians too many chances and they were lucky to be only down 2-1 at half time. Blueharts were much brighter in the second half and created enough chances to win the game. Graham Burr scored a well placed drag flick from a short corner but neither side was able to get a third and win the game. Both sides will feel disappointed to not win but either could have lost so a draw is probably a fair result.
