This is the first time in over 25 years that a Men's Bluehgarts team has been in the national league thanks to a season record of 18 wins, 2 draws and 2 losses. They have been unbeaten at home all season.
Celebrations followed the game in Cambridge with a vocal crowd who had travelled from Hitchin to support the team. The trophy presentation was made by Sarah Farmer from the East Hockey League to the delight of the team and the travelling fans.
Coach Pete Cornell summed up his feelings on a historic victory: "It's been an amazing season with a great group of guys. I know how much it means for local hockey, it's been a privilege to be part of it and I'd like to thank everyone for their support."
Captain Richard Julian, "I can't quite believe we've done it! It's been a really special season with an exceptionally talented squad that has pulled together and ground out results week after week. We've had amazing support all year, even for away games, and I'd especially like to thank our management team - Pete Cornell, John Barrett, Tony Sampson and Adam Wells - for everything they have put into this, it's not just been a season's effort but one that the club has worked towards for the last few years. I'm so proud of what we have achieved."
