2023/24 Season - Week 12

Hammond brothers shine with hat-trick heroics as Blueharts Men's 5s soar; Ladies 5s victorious too in the final weekend of 2023

The Hammond brothers continued their prolific season on Saturday – each scoring a hat-trick as Blueharts Men's 5s revival continued.

Ashley and Ben Hammond collected a treble apiece in their side’s 6-2 win at Harpenden 3s which sent the Hitchin side up to the top four of the East Division 4 South West.

But young goalkeeper Joshua Partridge was also a key figure with a string of outstanding saves which earned him the man of the match award.

The Ladies 5s were also winners on Saturday as goals from Dani Flood, Millie Winton and Niamh Krishman gave them a 3-2 victory at Royston.

But they were the only ladies winners – as the 2s were beaten 2-0 against Bishops Stortford 3s, despite a fine performance from player-of-the-match Isla Watts in midfield.

And the 7s went down 6-3 to Saffron Walden but had the consolation of two goals from Claudia Taylor and one from Elsie Burston.

Ben Apperly and Graham Burr were on target twice each as the Mens 1s drew 4-4 against Cambridge City 2s in the East Premier Division.

The men's 1s started well enough going 1-0 up in the first half through a goal from Graham Burr, a chance created by Ethan Gaunt.

However, Blueharts took their eye off the ball and somehow managed to concede 4 goals.

With 15 minutes to go and 4-1 down, some character was needed and Blueharts showed just that, scoring 3 quick goals through Graham Burr and 2 from Ben Apperley. With the game in the balance it was Blueharts who were on top but just couldn't score again to take the win. A draw wad probably the best they could have hoped and they'll be pleased to have avoided losing to a side on the same points in the league.

The Men's 2s unbeaten run came to an end at Bishops Stortford when they went down 6-0 to a powerful home side.

Paul Buckland scored twice in the 4s 3-3 draw against a skilful Vauxhall side – Sean Storey scoring the other goal, with Oliver Brigginshaw outstanding for Blueharts.

The 6s were beaten 5-3 at Royston, Mark Russell on target twice and Paul Krishman once for Blueharts.

And there was defeat for the 7s against second in the table Hertford 5s, who forged 2-0 ahead in the first half.

Blueharts slipped 4-0 down by at least mounted a spirited comeback with goals from Joe Grennell and Terry Salisbury and standout displays from Dan Kench and debutant Alec Gadsden.
