Alex Martinez-Lewis picked the perfect time to score his first Blueharts goal as he scored the winner for the Men’s 1s as they beat local rivals Letchworth 2-1 in the East Premier Division.
Despite the 1s dominating early possession, Letchworth looked threatening on the counter-attack and took a first-half lead
However, a sweeping move ended with a cross from Nick Ross being turned in by a diving Seb Walton-Adams for the equaliser.
Blueharts began to gain the ascendency and Martinez-Lewis pounced to score after a rebound off the post from a short corner.
The 1s had their chances to add to their lead as the game became scrappy towards the close – but defensive solidity saw them over the line.
The win saw the Blues move into the top five in the table, ahead of this weekend’s home game against Pelicans, with an opening day defeat by their opponents still fresh in the memory.
Blueharts Ladies 1s kept their East Division 1 South title hopes alive on Saturday with a 3-1 win over Crostyx.
A volley from Harriet Marsh opened the scoring before a brilliant drive down the line from Jay Livermore ended with a deflection by Helen Clarke to make it 2-0.
Crostyx pulled one back in the second period but Livermore added a third goal for the 1s who eased to victory with Lucy Nissen also outstanding.
The 1s were also indebted to Jo Gibson for umpiring her first Ladies 1s match.
The side’s win means they remain five points behind leaders St Albans and this Saturday travel to bottom side Upminster.
The Ladies 2s came up against a powerful Broxbourne side and found themselves 2-0 down early on.
But Blueharts dug deep and got back into the game after a short corner when Sophie Featherby passed it back to injector Rosie Ross to slip the ball past the Broxbourne keeper.
Natalie Gibbs then levelled with a brilliant strike from the top of the D - however Broxbourne struck twice to lead 4-2 with Blueharts’ excellent performance not being matched by any fortune in front of goal.
The Men’s 2s drew 2-2 at Waltham Forest, while the 3s thrashed Cheshunt 6-0 with the Hammonds playing a starring role – Ashley scoring twice, brother Ben and son Oscar one apiece with the other goals coming from Harry Storey and Dan Brooks.
The Ladies 3s beat Royston 5-1, while also on Saturday, the 4s battled to a 1-1 draw against Saffron Walden with Tamzin Wright on target and keeper Liv Frost keeping the scores level with some excellent stops.
Wright, Amy Williams and Lydia Buckland couldn’t be separated as players-of-the-match.
Just 24 hours later, the 4s were back in action, with a 1-0 win over Broxbourne.
Youngster Rory Williams produced one of the performances of the weekend with four second-half goals, helping to turn a 1-0 deficit at Rickmansworth into a 5-2 win – Dan Harvey scoring the other.
Ed McGregor struck twice and Nick Buckland once as the Men’s 5s drew 3-3 with their Letchworth opponents, but the Ladies 5s were beaten 3-0 at St Albans.
Hannah Ross was among the scorers as the Ladies 6s won a tight game 3-2 at Hertford, while Charlie Moore hit a double in the Men’s 6’s 5-3 win at Letchworth – George Gregory, Dave Moore and Dan Kench were also among the scorers.
There was a great win for the Men’s 7s who came away from league leaders Bedford with a 2-1 victory with George Raynor on target twice, while Ian Baxter took the man-of-the-match honours.
The Ladies 7s went down 9-0 at Letchworth but the Men’s 8s go marching on – preserving their unbeaten record with a 1-0 win over Bedford.
