Blueharts Ladies 1s moved second in East Division 1 South after a pivotal 2-0 win over fellow high-flyers Old Loughtonians.
Great goalkeeping from Grace Thomson and a goal-line block from Isla Watts kept the scoreline goalless in the first half and then Ellie Johnson set up Helen Clarke to open the scoring in the second period.
A Jay Livermore drag flick doubled the 1s lead, ensured the Blues came away from Chigwell with all three points and saw them move above Old Loughts in the table.
The Men’s 1s looked on course for East Premier Division victory on Saturday when they led Broxbourne 4-3 – only to concede two late goals to lose a nine-goal thriller.
A Chris Gadsden penalty stroke put the 1s ahead but the visitors struck back to lead 2-1.
Skipper Richard Julian then scored either side of half-time to put the Blues 3-2 up – but back came Broxbourne to level at 3-3.
Seb Walton-Adams restored Blueharts’ lead and they should have seen the game out, only for some poor decision-making to allow Broxbourne those costly late goals.
The defeat leaves Blueharts seventh in the table, behind this Saturday’s opponents Pelicans on goal difference.
Meme Brown and Natalie Gibbs scored in the Ladies 2s’ 2-1 win over Bishops Stortford in another chance-packed match.
Brown opened the scoring after substitute Kate Sherwood made an instant impression with the assist.
Blueharts continued to dominate with some free-flowing hockey and their superiority told when Gibbs scored an excellent second goal.
Stortford pulled one back just before half-time and the score remained 2-1 despite the 2s having a handful of chances, one of which saw Josie Layton just fail to score a third.
The Ladies 3s came back to draw 1-1 against their Stortford opponents – Jules Rees on target after a neatly-worked goal involving Scarlett Lait in defence, Caitilin Barter in the screen and Emily Bryan with the assist.
The scores stayed level after a phenomenal goal-line save from Nicky Turnbull while Barter’s debut match in the screen saw her pick up the player-of-the-match honours.
The 3s also bade a fond farewell to Vicky Brakenbury who played her last match before heading off on her travels.
It was a bittersweet Saturday for Ashley Hammond in the Men’s 3s – he scored a hat-trick but his side were beaten 5-3 by Hertford 2s.
That means the Men’s 4s are just two points behind the 3s after goals from Ollie Brigginshaw and Harry Sampson gave them a 2-2 draw at Hertford 3s.
The 4s take on the 3s at Lucas Lane this Saturday.
The Ladies 4s had a busy weekend – on Saturday a short corner goal from Amy Williams and a brilliant penalty flick by Niamh Krishman earned a 2-2 draw in a great game against Berkhamsted.
Just 24 hours later, they were out again and this time a Sarah Neal goal gave them a 1-1 draw with Bedford.
The Men’s 5s too had two games in two days and Adam Wells was on target in both – scoring both his side’s goals as they drew 2-2 against Luton Town on Saturday.
The 5s then beat Rickmansworth 2-0 on Sunday with Wells and Ed McGregor the scorers.
Charlie Streater took the man-of-the-match honours for a clean sheet for the Men’s 6s as Hertford 5s were beaten 6-0.
At the other end, there were four goals for Paul Krishman and one apiece for Joe Grennell and Dave Moore as the 6s made it 18 goals in two games.
The Ladies 6s went down 3-1 to Bishops Stortford despite an Izzy Marshall goal, with a standout performance from Jules Purton, while the 7s were beaten 2-0 by Saffron Walden.
The Men’s 7s lost 6-2 at Shefford and Sandy with Alec Gadsden and Simon Little on the scoresheet but it was another successful Saturday for the unbeaten Men’s 8s.
They notched their sixth win in succession as they defeated Rickmansworth 4-0, with goals from Mark Wakeling, Charlie Woodman, Tom Flinn and Rob Trotter who also gave an outstanding man-of-the-match display.
