2025/26 Season - Week 10

Strong performances across the club

The Men’s 1s maintained their position at the top of the East Premier Division with an impressive 4–2 away win against Cambridge University 1s. Ben Bayley opened the scoring before the hosts equalised, but Will Lawler restored the lead before half-time. A dominant second half followed, with James Sandford adding a composed finish and Liam Stevens converting a penalty stroke. Player of the match was Ben Bayley.

The Ladies’ 1s delivered their most complete performance of the season in a superb 4–0 home win against Old Loughtonians 2s. Laura Graham deflected home the opening short-corner strike before a flowing end-to-end move was finished by Lucy Nissen. High pressing created further chances, with Emily Fair scoring twice—first via a world-class top-corner deflection from an Emma Baxter strike and later from a pinpoint pass by Nissen.

A composed 4–1 away win against Shefford & Sandy 1s saw the Men’s 2s extend their lead at the top of the league. Paul Buckland opened the scoring with an early short-corner goal, followed by well-taken finishes from Sam Reay-Jones and Kyle Watson. Danny Fair added a tight-angle strike in the second half before a late consolation for the hosts.

The Ladies’ 2s put in a committed performance despite a 3–0 home defeat to top-of-the-table Luton Town 1s. Blueharts created promising attacking moments, including a well-earned short corner, but could not break through a strong opposition defence. Player of the match was Rosie Ross for excellent defensive play and distribution.

The Men’s 3s edged a dramatic 4–3 away win over Bishop’s Stortford 3s in a top-of-the-table clash between two previously unbeaten sides. After falling behind, the team responded with a hat-trick of drag-flicks from Piers Douglas. With the score level at 3–3 in the closing minutes, Noah Grylls created the decisive opportunity for Ben Hammond, who marked his return from injury by scoring the winner.

The Ladies’ 3s earned a well-fought 1–1 away draw against Letchworth 2s. Cat Cattermole scored the Blueharts goal, while player of the match was Niccara Berry for her composed and intelligent performance.

The Ladies’ 4s were narrowly beaten 3–2 away by Hertford 3s after a difficult first half left them trailing 2–0. Improved distribution and disciplined marking transformed the second half, highlighted by a goal-line save from Becky Graves. Goals from Joanna Floor and Becky Brierton—following a well-executed short-corner routine—brought Blueharts back into the contest, but despite sustained pressure, the equaliser proved elusive.

The Men’s 5s delivered a dominant 8–0 home win against Luton Town 2s, scoring four goals in each half. A hat-trick from an in-form Harry Sampson set the tone, supported by two goals each from Peter Mitchell and Philip Britton, with Hayden Haywood adding the eighth from a short-corner phase. The team continue their strong run ahead of a crucial match against second-placed Stevenage next weekend.

The Men’s 6s secured a solid 2–0 away win against Letchworth 3s with goals from Alex Haskins and Daniel Edwards.

The Ladies’ 6s battled to a 1–1 home draw against Royston 2s. Blueharts struck first through Grace Winfield and maintained their lead thanks to a superb diving save and clearance from goalkeeper Ruth Hicks just before half-time. Royston equalised in the second half, and although Blueharts created late opportunities, they were unable to capitalise.

The Men’s 7s returned to winning ways with a determined 4–3 home victory over Hertford 6s. Goals from Andy Devey, Chris Job, U16 player Max Whitley and George Gregory put Blueharts ahead in a match played in challenging weather. A late Hertford goal made for a tense finish, but solid game management secured the win. Blues of the week were umpires Roger Hammond and Sean Parsons for exceptional officiating in difficult conditions.

A composed performance saw the Men’s 8s record a 3–0 away win against Welwyn Garden City 3s at Hertfordshire Sports Village. Captain Dan Holder opened the scoring with an overhead finish before second-half goals from Thomas Flinn—after a swift counterattack—and Max Barton sealed the result. Player of the match was Thomas Flinn.

A great weekend of hockey with plenty more to come next week.
