Mixed results in a competitive weekend

A busy weekend of matches saw strong performances across the club, with high-scoring wins, tight contests and competitive derby fixtures.

The Men’s 1s delivered a dominant 9–3 home win over Cambridge South 1s, producing one of their strongest attacking performances of the season. Goals came from Rob Baxter, Ben Bayley, Harvey Walton Adams, two from Liam Stevens, a hat-trick from Will Lawler and a composed finish from James Sandford.

The Ladies’ 1s put in a resilient away performance in their 2–3 loss to Letchworth 1s. Goals from Harriet Marsh and Lucy Nissen kept the game close throughout, but Blueharts were unable to level the score despite late pressure.

The Men’s 2s continued their unbeaten run with a composed 3–0 home victory over Welwyn Garden City 1s. First-half goals from Max Baiden and Jamie Williams set the tone, before Sam Reay-Jones added a confident third to secure the win.

The Ladies’ 2s delivered an emphatic 8–0 away win over Welwyn Garden City 1s. Carly Madders led a standout attacking display with two goals and multiple assists, while Kate Sherwood added several trademark deflections in a commanding team performance.

The Men’s 5s and 6s faced each other in a competitive and good-spirited derby. The 6s came out on top, showing their strength in the final 20 minutes to pull away for the win. Dan Kench scored his first club hat-trick, with further goals from Harry Sampson (2) and Ed Mac. The 5s’ goal came from Paul Krishman. The 5s remain second in their league with a game in hand, while the 6s sit solidly in mid-table.

The Ladies’ 5s battled throughout their 1–2 away loss to Chiltern 1s. A composed finish from Izzy Marshall kept Blueharts in the contest, but despite sustained pressure they were unable to find a late equaliser.

The Men’s 7s took part in the internal club derby, losing 1–3 to the Men’s 8s. Two early goals from debutant Stuart Dingley—both created by Tom Payne—set the tone, before Rob Trotter set up Thomas Flinn for a third. The win extends their impressive streak to nine consecutive victories, keeping them top of the table. Harry Palmer rewarded the 7s with a goal in the 50th minute. The Men’s 8s continued their exceptional form with a 3–1 home win over club rivals the 7s.

The Ladies’ 7s earned an important 2–0 away win against Chiltern 2s. Despite starting the match with only ten players, they took the lead through Eve Bond. With a full team after halftime, confidence grew and Bond added a second from a well-placed pass by Ellie Rayner.

A great weekend of hockey with plenty more to come next week.
